OPEN LEARNING: OPERATING POWER PLANT SYSTEMS

These courses have been running successfully for more than six years with over 250 candidates using the material. They are aimed at those employed or wishing to become employed as operators in Fossil Fuel or Nuclear stations. The following areas are covered:

Module 1: Either Combustion and Boilers (Fossil Fuel) or Reactors and Steam Generators (Nuclear)
Module 2: Materials Handling
(Fossil Fuel or Nuclear versions)
Module 3: Steam Turbines
Module 4: Feed Heating Systems
Module 5: Cooling Water Systems
Module 6: Water Treatment
Module 7: Electrical Systems
Module 8: Control and Instrumentation
Module 9: Auxiliary Systems
Module 10: Start-up and Shut-down of units
(Fossil or Nuclear versions)
Module 11: Maintain Efficient Operation of Units.


The duration of the course is approximately 12-18 months and students are encouraged to work at their own pace. However, students are required to submit at least one module during the first 12 months of study, and will be liable for additional fees if the course is not complete within 3 years of enrolling and they wish to continue studying.

The UK course enrolment fee is currently £1220 + VAT and £1330 for overseas students.
