ISO 22000 THE NEW FOOD STANDARD

The implementation of ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System) is set to take effect substantially in 2006.  ISO 22000 is the signal that international food safety regulations are being strengthened significantly.  Experts are pointing out the need for fundamental changes in the constitutions of domestic food and certification business circles to cope with the situation.

ISO 22000 will integrate all existing international food safety-related regulations, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) etc.  As this new standard will be applied industry wide, “Farm to Table”, its impact on business communities is expected to be enormous.

Everyone will need to take the time to understand ISO 22000, which are different from existing certification systems, as quickly as possible and equip themselves with an appropriate management environment, while the government needs to move forward from the existing management system that is dispersed in terms of stage - production, processing, distribution, etc. - and introduce a system that is capable of controlling all stages comprehensively.

AFAQ AFNOR International London intend to develop training courses dealing with the new standards.

UK GOVERNMENT TRAINING NEWS

Both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have used their keynote speeches at the Labour Party Conference to emphasise their party's commitment to skills.

In his speech, Tony Blair said: "The only secure economic future for Britain lies in one thing... knowledge, skills, intelligence, the talents Britain has in abundance if only we set them free".

Gordon Brown spoke about the role of skills in the wider economy and the need to continue developing and improving the skills base.  He argued that: "Britain will not compete on lower pay but on higher skills".
