NEWS FROM IRCA

New Website

IRCA’s new  website www.irca.org is worth a look at.  The site has been redesigned, although the site structure remains the same, and two new language versions of the site – Spanish and Italian – have been added.

INform

The latest issue of IRCA INform magazine is now available at http://www.irca.org/inform/issue10/front_cover.html.  The magazine is now available in Spanish, Italian, English, Japanese and Chinese.

OHSAS 18001

According to IRCA, health and safety issues now affect all organisations to the extent where the potential risks and legal obligations cannot be ignored.  To comply with changes in legislation and to protect staff, more organisations are looking to reduce the risk of accidents and litigation by implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System based on OHSAS 18001.  At AFAQ-ETA we are producing a 3-day course for all those involved with implementing this important new system.  The course is being designed by Mehran Debagh from the EAQA Iran office.  For further information contact Bill Fenton at bill.fenton@afaq-eta.com

THE WORLD CUP

Just a day after the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) enlisted the support of some the world’s top soccer players to promote its agenda at next month’s World Cup in Germany, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) scored another goal today with the adoption of environmental messages contained in a short film to be presented on giant screens before each and every match of the month-long tournament.

IEMA comment that “environmental considerations will now take centre stage in this competition for the very first time, with clear and measurable objectives, and it is hoped that it will leave a lasting legacy“.

CARBON TRADING

AFAQ-EAQA invites you to a workshop exclusively for the Electricity Supply Industry

The Emissions Trading Scheme is picking up steam, and generating more column inches every week.  But how can organisations find their way through all the legislation when the goalposts keep moving?  AFAQ-EAQA, an accredited verifier, is organising an information workshop; Navigating Emissions Trading – Lessons Learned in Year 1, which will cover the issues raised by the first year of trading. It will include first-hand experience from both verifiers and installations.  It will also address the legal implications of carbon trading.

With the number of operations and activities affected by carbon trading set to increase, you can't afford to miss the debate on future trends and who is impacted.  For more details, contact carolyn.harris@eaqa.co.uk.  Cost of the workshop is £40 per participant.  Place numbers are limited, so register today!

NEWS FROM US!

Open Learning Offer – PSP Course!

AFAQ-ETA would like to remind people that any students that have completed our Introduction to the Protection of Transmission & Distribution Systems course are eligible for a 5% discount when enrolling on our Premier Power Systems Protection course.  The Premier PSP course is unique, and the volumes remain the international authoritative text on the subject.  Whilst the course is demanding, it offers a substantial development opportunity to electrical engineers.

Open Learning modules can now be submitted and returned electronically, which makes studying a lot easier  and more efficient for our overseas students who no longer have to wait for the international post to deliver and return their work.

We would like to encourage more of our students to submit and accept results in this way, as it cuts down on postage costs all round, and reduces the amount of paper resources being used – assessment sheets and assignments, envelopes, labels and so on.

For more information about any aspect of Open Learning, contact Tyla Davis on +44 (0)20 7922 1630 or tyla.davis@afaq-eta.com
