EVENTS - 5 - 7 October 2004

PowerGen Asia Conference and Exhibition, Bangkok

Opportunities in Asia were explored in detail at this year’s major event for power companies, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers.

Power plant equipment orders over the next five years will see a shift from North America to Asia. It is predicted that between 2003 and 2008, Asia, excluding China, will account for 29% of major plant equipment orders - up from 13% in the 1998-2002 period.  When China is included, Asia will account for 61% of plant orders.

Although China and India will provide the bulk of these new orders, the rest of southeast Asia will still continue to experience solid growth in electricity demand.  In Thailand for example, growth in electricity demand has recovered in line with economic growth and a forecasted electricity demand growth of 6% in 2004 is expected to produce requirements for additional power plants.

AFAQ-ETA shared an exhibition stand at the conference with UK Empower Training Services Ltd.  Conference delegates had the opportunity to discuss their training requirements and to see the latest of the open and distance learning power industry courses that are available.

Visitors to the Exhibition should visit our PowerGen Asia Visitors area.
